Divided into six sections -- Colonization & Rebellion (1700-1830), Expansion & Fragmentation (1830-80), Cosmopolitanism & Nationalism (1880-1915), Modernism & Regionalism (1915-45), Prosperity & Disillusionment (1945-80), and Multiculturalism & Globalization (1980-present) -- the exhibition and the catalogue capture American myths, dreams, trials and tribulations in a journey embracing more than 300 years and some 200 artworks, tracing the development of art in connecction with the great events in American history.
